Early Childhood Special Education

The Wyoming Early Childhood Special Education Preschool is operated by Wyoming Public Schools.

The Early Childhood Special Education Program (ECSE) PROGRAM is a special education classroom experience for children ages 3 through 5 who display significant developmental delays that impact learning. Developmental areas of delay and impairment include: receptive and expressive language, fine and gross motor skills, social emotional development such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, or impairments in vision, hearing, and physical health.

Eligibility for the ECSE program is determined by a special education evaluation conducted by the diagnostic team. Once eligibility has been established, an Individualized Education Program (IEP) team (which includes the child’s parent or guardian) will develop an appropriate educational plan to identify your child’s specific special education needs based on his or her strengths and weakness, goals and objectives, and individual disabilities and learning styles.

Special transportation is available to students attending a special education classroom program. Based on your child’s level of delay and specific needs, the IEP team will determine if a classroom program and/or direct therapy are required. It is the goal of the IEP team to provide the least restrictive environment that is required to impact the delay. Depending on the level of delay, your child might qualify to:

1. Meet with a speech and language therapist, physical therapist and / or occupational therapist for approximately 30 minutes once per week.

2. Attend ECSE classroom program that is offered two (2) or four (4) half days per week, Monday - Thursday. Each classroom consists of up to 12 students, 1 teacher, and 2 paraprofessional / teacher assistants.

3. Attend a completely inclusive program full-time within WECC where the ECSE teacher will team with the general education teacher to meet your child's IEP goals and objectives.
