District Nurse
Wyoming Public Schools is dedicated to promoting a healthy and safe school environment for every student. I work closely with staff, medical providers, and parents to support the health and well-being of all students. What does the Nurse do?
- Provides education and training to staff in each building including CPR, First Aid, Diabetes Care, safe Medication Administration, Medical Emergency Response, and more
- Creates and implements healthcare plans for students with medical conditions
- In the district daily for emergencies and medical assistance with student illness and injury
- Provide education to students on topics such as health and safety, first aid, cpr, and more!
Common Illnesses at School-Student Exclusion Guidelines
COVID-19
The student should stay home until 24 hours with no fever and cough has improved (masking is recommended but not mandatory)
Influenza
The student should stay home until 24 hours with no fever and cough has improved (masking is recommended but not mandatory)
Fever
The student should stay home until 24 hours with no fever 101 degrees or higher—without the use of fever-reducing medications such as Tylenol or Motrin.
Rash and Skin Sores
The student should stay home with a rash AND a fever or change in behavior. Exclude until rash subsides or cleared by a doctor. Stay home with weeping sores that cannot be covered until they have scabbed over.
Strep Throat
The student should stay home until 24 hours after the first dose of the antibiotics have been started.
Diarrhea / Vomiting
The child should stay home until it has been 24 hours since their last loose/ watery stool or vomiting episode unless medically cleared by a doctor.
Pink Eye
The child should stay home until 24 hours after the first dose of antibiotics have been started.
Head Lice
The student should stay home if there are any live lice. Treatment should be started and there should be no live lice before the student can return to school. See district policy for more information regarding head lice.

Managing Communicable Diseases in Schools

Fiebre
El estudiante debe quedarse en casa hasta 24 horas sin fiebre de 38 grados Celsius o más, sin el uso de medicamentos para disminuir la fiebre como el paracetamol o el ibuprofeno.
Sarpullido y llagas en la piel
El estudiante debe permanecer en casa si presenta sarpullido Y fiebre o un cambio en su comportamiento. Debe ser excluido hasta que el sarpullido desaparezca o un médico lo autorice. Debe quedarse en casa si tiene llagas supurantes que no se puedan cubrir hasta que se formen costras.
Faringitis estreptocócica
El estudiante debe quedarse en casa hasta 24 horas después de haber comenzado la primera dosis de antibióticos.
Diarrea / Náuseas
El niño debe permanecer en casa hasta que hayan transcurrido 24 horas desde su último episodio de heces blandas/acuosas (popo blanda o aguada) o vómitos, a menos que un médico lo permita.
Conjuntivitis
El niño debe quedarse en casa hasta 24 horas después de haber comenzado la primera dosis de antibióticos.
Piojos
El alumno debe permanecer en casa si presenta piojos vivos. Debe comenzar el tratamiento y no debe haber piojos vivos antes de que el alumno pueda regresar a la escuela. Consulte la normativa del distrito para obtener más información sobre los piojos.
